My Latest Art Supply Wishlist

by , in
I think I’ve been a good girl enough this year to warrant a good wishlist for art supply shopping next year. I’ve been restraining myself from making any big art purchases especially since we are preparing for our wedding. I am actually surprised at how short my list is now. Without further ado, let’s take a peek shall we?

First up in the list is a Rose Gold Lamy LX. Although I’m a pen addict, I haven’t quite got into the Fountain Pen Bandwagon yet and while my visits to Scribe had me drooling over the pen displays, I’ve been able to successfully resist temptation. So I only have a few choice beginner fountain pens that I’ve been eyeing, this included.

Post Event Write-Up: Zig Pen Meet 3

by , in
Last September 9th, I joined a lot of artists, illustrators, letterers and calligraphers on a big art event held by Zig Philippines at the Grand Atrium of Shangri-La Plaza mall. It was a day reserved for art and it was so much fun!

I arrived at the event at 1pm on the dot and I was immediately ushered to the name writing booth where I will be stationed for two hours. I got to meet IG followers and visitors at the art event with the most unique names. My weapon of choice was the brush pen and my I exercised my affinity for color combinations.

The event itself was divided into sections. There were booths where artists were doing live demos of their skills, there’s a stage where you can listen to talks, a live mural section from selected artists, a shopping section where you can peruse and buy all the newly launched Zig Kuretake art materials.

There was also an exhibit section where our works were put up collectively on a wall and showcased for everyone to see.

The event lasted til 6pm and while I was really tired, I was happy that I got to reconnect with friends from the art community. I can't wait for the next Pen Meet!

I’m Learning to Draw Kawaii

by , in
Last week, I had mostly been on bed rest after undergoing a minor operation and I kept myself busy in between recovering and learning how to draw kawaii. I promise to do a simple tutorial on it soon. Probably when I’ve done several sketches already but for now I want to share the process of how I made my very first attempts.

I of course chose to draw a beagle because I had been missing my dogs so much. So while I was up from a nap. I drew this. As you can see, it’s anything but cute. Drawing Kawaii means to draw “cute” and small. Basically it’s a drawing that can make you go “aaaaw” as soon as you see it. My drawing looked like a dog but didn’t look like a beagle. Plus the eyes were too freaky. Hahaha!

Disappearing Sennelier Paints?

by , in
One of the most expensive watercolor sets I’ve ever bought is my Sennelier French Watercolor Paints. While I love it’s creaminess and color vibrancy, because of its price, I use it sparingly and I only use it for final works. However, when I opened my set last week, I noticed this on my set.

Practicing Loose Florals

by , in
Last night I was helping my fiance with the 3d renderings of some office spaces and while my computer was doing some rendering, I was doing some watercolor practice on my own. I haven’t done some loose florals in a while and I know I need to improve on this skill. Hopefully, I’d get better if I get to practice more and more. Each sketch took only about 5 minutes to make on my Travelogue Sketchbook.
Here’s my first attempt. Not really all that happy with the result. I chose the wrong colors I think and the composition is all over the place. Still posting this as my starting reference.

Second attempt was a bit better. I like the colors that I chose here and I think I executed the flowers a bit better than the first one.

Last practice of the night were these flowers. I am pleased with this output and this made me want to practice more. I used Kuretake Gansai Tambi on all floral practices.

My 2017 Hong Kong Art Supply Hauls

by , in
Last month, I was in HK for a five day vacation with my fiance and his friends. Aside from getting a break from my toxic work schedule, I also got to revisit my favorite art stores and got to take home these art hauls. Take a look at what added to my suitcase’s weight on the flight back.

Ongoing Watercolor Sketches

by , in
Remember the art resolutions that I posted? Well, one of them is to be able to fill one sketchbook this year with watercolor sketches. I do not pledge to draw on it everyday because my schedule doesn't permit doing so but I'm really hoping I'd get to when I've gotten back into the swing of things this year. Anyway, I've started to fill up some pages of this art journal at least. cher-cabula-watercolor-sketches-005.jpg

How to Write in Foil

by , in

One of the gifts that I gave myself last Christmas was a custom foiling pen from The Curious Artisan. It’s a modified tool that allows you to write faux broad and pointed pen calligraphy on wood, leather and fabric. I finally got to try it out over the Christmas break and here are my first impressions.

Hello everyone! How have your holidays have been? It’s already the second day of the New Year and I hope it’s been treating you good so far.
