Ladies Drawing Night

Sunday night… pffft. Just a few more hours and it’ll be Monday. Try as I might about being positive for the upcoming workweek, there’s still that nagging sad feeling about letting the weekend go. I think it’s the anticipation of the inevitable Monday blues. Well, due to the genius that is my friend, Drea (Instagram – @mabuhaydiy), we’ve started Ladies Drawing Night. It starts at about 9pm, Manila time and me along with art enthusiasts participate by working on two drawing themes. What makes it so fun is that there is a time limit to each theme, so not only will it make us think of drawing subjects faster, it also enables us to work on our art pieces faster than normal.
For the first run, we only did the Ladies Drawing Night over our Viber group. We didn’t announce it yet on public. Oh man, it was a riot. My viber was buzzing the entire time. The funny thing was, I didn’t know that we were going to start already. So I even took a nap!! When I woke up around 20 minutes later, there were around 47 message notifications and they were almost done with the first drawing theme. You can imagine how I sat up on the bed and went straight to the desk.

The first two drawing themes were – dessert and drinks. Pink and Yellow for the dessert theme and then blue and brown for the drinks. Here’s my drawing output. It’s the first time in a while that I employed this kind of drawing style. I even used the back of a used Arches paper here.

It was so much fun!! We were having a riot over at Viber and we knew that we were onto something that would finally cure the Monday blues away. So there was nothing but love and anticipation for the next weekend. The second run of the Ladies Drawing Night had dog and cat themes.

For the cat theme, we were asked to draw with mint and coral colors and this was what I came up with. I was going for something a little bit abstract and I wanted just the strokes and the colors to define the shapes of the cats. What I came up with was simple and I sincerely hoped that they looked like cats. Drawing time: 20 minutes
The next theme was all about dogs and I sat there looking at the blank page and I honestly didn’t know what to draw!!! I must’ve redrawn for like three times before finally deciding on a whimsical bull terrier. Well, I tried to make it whimsical. The color themes for the dog was purple and blue and this was what I came up with.
I honestly think that this is going to become a very very good painting and drawing exercise. You are very much welcome to join us. Head on over to the Instagram account of @mabuhaydiy and watch out for the prompt that she’ll be posting for the drawing themes. Remember, she’ll post every Sunday, 9pm (Manila time). Then everyone gets to work on the drawing themes at the same time. Oh and don’t forget to use the hashtag #ladiesdrawingnightPH.
